Saturday Split at Alki Beach Invitational

Oregon (17-16) now turns its attention to next week's MPSF Championship.
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Oregon beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Alki Beach Invitational marking the end of the regular season. The Ducks swept Portland in their opener before a tight 3-2 setback to host and No. 19 Washington.

With Saturday's split, the Ducks finish the regular season with a 17-16 record heading into next week's MPSF Championship (April 22-24, B1G+) in Huntington Beach, Calif. Tournament seedings are set to be announced later this weekend.

Bella Gamache and Liz Rossi generated the Ducks' first point of the day with a victory at the top of the lineup, followed by respective sweeps by Landree Coats and Natasha George at No. 5 pairs, and Daley McClellan and Elsa Snipes on court three to clinch the opener.

The win by McClellan and Snipes was the duo's 17th of the year, moving them second place on the UO single-season list.

Oregon completed the dual sweep of Portland with victories at No. 4 and 2 pairs, respectively, without dropping a set on any of the five courts. The win was the program's 24th consecutive over the Pilots.

McClellan and Snipes picked up another win at No. 3 pairs to start the scoring against the 19th-ranked Huskies. The Oregon duo completed their 4-0 weekend with a 22-20, 21-19 score to give the Ducks an early 1-0 lead.

Washington answered with a sweep of its own on court two to pull even at 1-all. The remaining three duals in play were all decided in three sets.

After the weekend host took a 2-1 lead, Coats and George secured UO's second point with a 21-19, 11-21, 15-12 result at the No. 5 spot in the lineup. The third set was tied 10-10 but Coats and George won five of the last seven points to end the match.

The No. 1 pairs was the last court in play. The Huskies jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the third frame but Gamache and Rossi got as close as two—down 11-9—late in the set. However, the UW pair of Emma Hohenauer and Katarina Pantovic scored the last four points to end the dual.
