
Ducks Advance to Fourth Straight NCATA Semifinal

AZUSA, Calif. – The No. 2-seeded Oregon Acrobatics and Tumbling team powered through the quarterfinals of the NCATA National Championships on Thursday, beating Gannon 262.510-251.165.
The Ducks (6-2) never trailed in the quarterfinal matchup, increasing their lead over the Golden Knights (6-4) in each event. Thursday's victory marks the fourth straight semifinals appearance and the 13th in program history.
"Today was our first meet of the season where we hit from bottom to top," head coach Taylor Susnara said. "We are so happy with the overall execution and energy. We can't win a title if we don't win each day, and we checked today off."
Oregon won all six events and dropped only three heats, finishing ahead in nine second-half heats. The Ducks' highest mark came in the five-element acro heat with a 9.900. Oregon also recorded a season-high 28.150 in the toss event.
The Ducks will compete in the first semifinal Friday against third-seeded Quinnipiac, which Oregon defeated 270.640 to 265.425 in Eugene earlier this season. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. PT.
How it Happened:Â Oregon jumped out to an early 36.50-35.40 lead with a strong showing in the compulsory event, outscoring Gannon in all four heats.
The Ducks extended their lead in the acro event with a 28.650. Angelica Martin and Cassidy Cu opened with a 9.900 in the five-element heat and added a 9.775 in the seven-element heat.
Oregon carried momentum into the halftime break with a 29.200 in the pyramid event, its top event of the day. The Ducks scored a 9.825 in the inversion pyramid, a 9.600 in synchronized and a 9.775 in the open pyramid to take a 2.575 point lead at the half.
Oregon continued to build momentum in the toss event, outscoring Gannon 28.150-26.300. The Ducks' top score came in the 450 salto toss with a 9.600.
Oregon dominated the tumbling event, outscoring Gannon 56.000-50.150. Sophomore Morgan Willingham led the way with a 9.850 in the aerial pass.
The Ducks held a double-digit lead entering the team event and sealed the win with an 84.010 to clinch a spot in Friday's first semifinal matchup.
