04/23/26 | Football
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Oregon football standout Kenyon Sadiq became the second tight end in program history to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night when he was selected No. 16 overall by the New York Jets.
Sadiq joins Russ Francis, also the No. 16 overall pick back in 1975, as the only Oregon tight ends to be drafted in the first round.Â
Oregon has now had at least one first-round pick in each of the last seven NFL Drafts, with Sadiq following Derrick Harmon (No. 21, 2025), Josh Conerly Jr. (No. 29, 2025), Bo Nix (No, 12, 2024), Christian Gonzalez (No. 17, 2023), Kayvon Thibodeaux (No. 5, 2022), Penei Sewell (No. 7, 2021) and Justin Herbert (No. 6, 2020).
Sadiq becomes the 25th first-round pick in program history, and he is Oregon's 13th first-round selection since 2013 and 16th since 2000. Sadiq is the first Duck to be selected by the Jets in the first round.Â
A native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Sadiq emerged as top tight end prospect in the nation as a junior. He set the Oregon single-season record for catches by a tight end with 51 in 2025 while catching eight touchdowns, most among all FBS tight ends and tied for second-most in a season by an Oregon tight end.
Sadiq was selected as the Big Ten Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year while earning all-America second-team honors from the FWAA and the Associated Press. He became the first Duck to be named a finalist for the John Mackey Award, presented to the nation's top tight end.Â
Sadiq closed his Oregon career at No. 6 in Oregon tight end history with 60 career catches and tied for eighth with 11 career receiving touchdowns.Â
Sadiq solidified his standing as the top tight end in the draft at the 2026 NFL Combine, running the fastest 40-yard dash ever by a tight end at 4.39 seconds.Â
