Blue Jays Select Cooney in Third Round

EUGENE, Ore. – The Toronto Blue Jays selected Oregon infielder Ryan Cooney in the third round on day one of the Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.
Cooney was the 103rd overall pick, the sixth highest selection of a position player in the modern era of Oregon Baseball. He was picked 11 spots higher than Mason Neviille, who went 114th overall to the Cincinnati Reds in last year's draft, and three spots behind Ryon Healy, the 100th-overall pick in 2013 draft. He is also the 11th-highest Ducks' draft pick in the modern era, behind first-round picks Tyler Anderson (2011) and David Peterson (2017); second-round picks Aaron Zavala (2021), Ryne Nelson (2019), Josh Kasevich (2022) and Madison Boer (2011); and third-round picks Spencer Steer (2019), Sabin Ceballos (2023), Healy, and Garrett Cleavinger (2015).
Cooney is the second Ducks' player selected by the Blue Jays and is the fifth Oregon player picked in the third round of the MLB Draft.
