Claimed two NCAA individual titles at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships to pass Suleiman Nyambui (Texas-El Paso, 1979-82) fpr the most combined national cross country/track and field championships won - 17 - in NCAA history. He finishes his incredible career as the winningest male athlete in the history of NCAA Division I athletics, and he is only two championships shy of Jenny Thompson's (Swimming, Stanford) all-time NCAA record for most individual championships won by an NCAA athlete in any sport (19).
2016-17: Outdoor - Claimed the Pac-12 title in the 10,000 meters with a time of 29:11.76, his second Pac-12 title in the 10K and seventh conference championship of his career... Finished first in the 10,000 meters (28:46.48) at the Stanford Invitational... Placed fourth in the 5000 Meters (13:29.85) at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Indoor - Made history at the NCAA Indoor Championships, winning the 5K (13:41.20) and 3K (7:55.91) to run his career NCAA championship total to 17 and pass Nyambui for the most titles ever won in NCAA track and field or cross country ... Cheserek also finished second in the mile to score the most individual points ever with 28 and become the all-time leader in points scored at the NCAA Indoor Championships with 91 for his career ... Beat the indoor collegiate record in the mile (3:52.01) at the Last Chance Meet ... Made his season debut at the Columbia EastWest Challenge by finishing first (7:45.85) in the 3000 meters, and helping his team finish first in the DMR (9:30.86)... Took over the 2017 world and NCAA lead in the 5000 meters by finishing with a time of 13:32.59 at the Husky Classic. Cross Country - Began his senior season by finishing first at the Washington Invitational (23:06.30), scoring points for the Ducks... Won his fourth straight Pac-12 title at the Pac-12 Championships with a time of 23:58.9 to make him the most decorated runner in conference history... 2015-16: Bowerman Award finalist won an incredible six NCAA titles as a junior. Joined former Duck Galen Rupp as the only men to win the NCAA cross country title, the indoor 3,000 and 5,000 meters and the distance medley relay, and the outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meters in the same academic year. Is the first three-time Bowerman Award finalist in that honor's history. Outdoor – Swept the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year ... Light regular season schedule with appearances in the Pepsi Invitational and the Oregon Twilight meet after a heavy workload at the NCAA Indoor Championships ... Started his championship run by winning his first Pac-12 10,000 meter title in a season-best 28:58.57 ... Claimed the NCAA 10,000 meter crown in 29:09.57, and then came back two days later to win the 5,000 meter title in 13:25.59, a time that was just :07 off his personal best. Indoor – Won three NCAA titles at the 2016 NCAA Championships…won the 5,000 (13:47.89) before anchoring the distance medley relay 30 minutes later with an unofficial split of 3:52.89 in the 1,600…completed the triple by winning the 3,000 in 8:00.40…became the second person to win that triple, joining Galen Rupp in 2009…was named the USTFCCCA Men’s Track Athlete of the Year…ran the second fastest 3,000-meter time in NCAA history while finishing sixth at the Millrose Games (7:40.51)…The time broke Galen Rupp’s school record by four seconds…opened the season as a part of the winning DMR team at the Razorback Invitational and also winning the mile in 3:57.38…Cross Country - Began year with a win at the Bill Dellinger Invitational...Led five Ducks across the finish line in 24:26.0... Helped Ducks win the distance medley relay at the Penn Relays in 9:33.86, as well as a runner-up showing in the 4xMile relay (16:18.93) ... Won the 3,000 meters at the Oregon Twilight (7:57.97) ... Claimed his first Pac-12 track title with a win at 5,000 meters in 13:45.25 ... Wrapped up season with a pair of impressive wins at the NCAA Championships ... Prep: Broke the 49 year-old boys’ national indoor high school two-mile record at the 2013 Millrose Games in New York City…Finished in 8:39.15 to take down the 8:40 run by Gerry Lindgren of Rogers High in Spokane, Wash., in 1964…Was the 2013 Gatorade National Cross Country Runner of the Year and didn’t lose a prep cross country race since 2010, when he finished second as a freshman at the Nike National Championships…Included in his winning streak were two Footlocker national cross country titles, as he become just the fourth boy to win twice…Impressively, he broke cross country course records in 12 of his 21 career high school starts…Outdoors on the track in 2013, won the Essex County championship in the 800 (1:50.84) and then turned around and won the state title at 3,200 meters (9:08.63)…Was an eight-time high school national champion for St. Benedict’s Prep…In addition to breaking the national indoor two-mile mark, which ranks fourth in all conditions, also holds the national indoor record in the 5,000 meters, 13:57.04, a time that is No. 7 in all conditions…Is also ranked second in the indoor mile (4:02.21), fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:00.11) and eighth in the 10,000 meters (29:42.31)…High School Bests: 800 Meters - 1:49.98, 2012; 1,500 Meters - 3:55.53, 2013; 1,600 Meters - 4:09.90, 2012; Mile - 4:02.21i, 2013; 3,000 Meters - 8:05.46i, 2013; Two-Mile - 8:39.15i, 2013; 5,000 Meters - 13:57.04i (2012); 10,000 Meters - 29:42.31 (2012); 3,000 Meter Steeplechase - 9:00.11, 2012.
