The top collegians from the 'Conference of Champions' will do battle in one of the nation's finest track meets in the 2006 Pacific-10 Conference Championships, scheduled for Hayward Field in Eugene, Sat.-Sun., May 13-14.
Based on an approximate time schedule (subject to minor changes), Saturday's first running event is set for 1:50 pm (men's 4x100-meter relay), the first field event is at 1:55 pm (men's javelin final), and the final event gets over at approximately 7:30 pm.
On Sunday, the first field event is tentatively set for 1:45 pm (men's discus), the first running event is at 2:20 pm (men's 4x100 relay), and the last event ends at approximately 5:50 pm.
The league decathlon and heptathlon will be held the weekend before (Sat.-Sun., May 6-7) and will run from approximately noon-5 pm each day.
Each of the 10 Pac-10 schools can enter a maximum of 28 athletes in various events, and a list of conference individual event rankings is available on the statistics link on the www.GoDucks.com track and field main page.
The meet is scored through eight places by the following format for each event:
1st (10 points), 2nd (8), 3rd (6), 4th (5), 5th (4), 6th (3), 7th (2), 8th (1).
In the 2005 edition held at UCLA's Drake Stadium in Los Angeles, Oregon won the men's team crown with 152 points over UCLA (second, 134 1/2), Arizona State (third, 122) and USC (fourth, 106), while Stanford won its first women's team title with 173 points over UCLA (second, 125), Arizona State (third, 118) and USC (fourth, 99).
