INDIANAPOLIS – The top-ranked University of Oregon men’s golf team was awarded a No. 1 seed by the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee for one of six regional tournaments that will determine the field for the 2010 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships.
The Ducks earned the top spot in the regional hosted by San Diego State at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in San Diego. All six 54-hole regional tournaments run May 20-22.
“It will be nice to stay on the West Coast, but with a strong field including two other Pac-10 teams (California and Arizona) and a good San Diego State team essentially playing at home, we are in for a challenging tournament,” said fourth-year head coach Casey Martin.
Oregon is in one of three regionals with 13 teams as opposed to 14. The low five teams advance to the finals, June 1-6, at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The regional appearance will mark UO’s fourth straight. The Ducks have qualified for the NCAA Championships the past two seasons.
Oregon is coming off its most successful regular season in school history, having won four tournaments in 2010. Martin was honored as the Pac-10 Coach of the Year and sophomore Eugene Wong was named Pac-10 co-Golfer of the Year.
