2004 — As the young Oregon outfield progressed through the season, Topps found herself in the mix, contributing in 52 games and making 34 starts. A young player adapting to collegiate pitching, Topps’ offense showed signs of what can be in the future as her averaged peaked at .312 after a 2-for-4, three RBI, two run performance vs. Southern Mississippi. Despite her youth, Topps wasted little time making a splash, hitting her first career home run in the Ducks’ second game of the season vs. Florida Atlantic. She finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored and after going 1-for-3 vs. then-No. 7 in Oregon’s opener, Topps had gotten a hit in her first two collegiate games. In two games vs. Southern Mississippi, Feb. 27 and 28, Topps was 3-for-6 (.500) with five RBI, three runs scored and two home runs. As Pac-10 play began, Topps made herself a factor in key situations and scored a pivotal run in the seventh inning vs. Oregon State as the Ducks rallied from a six-run deficit to win, 9-8, at home. A week later, Topps came off the bench as a pinch hitter vs. Stanford and hit a double vs. the Cardinal to finish the game 1-for-1 and ended up scoring the Ducks’ lone run of the game. Topps’ other conference hit came vs. UCLA April 30 (1-for-3). As Oregon made its way to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, Topps opened the regional by going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI against Bethune-Cookman and scored a run in the Ducks’ 12-0 win over South Florida the following day.
