Sinicki Selected 20th Overall in 2025 AUSL Draft
12/01/25 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. – Gold Glove shortstop Paige Sinicki was the 20th overall pick in the 2025 Athletes Unlimited Softball League Allocation Draft. Sinicki was selected in the fourth round Monday by the expansion team AUSL Cascade, who are expected to be based in the Pacific Northwest for the 2026 season.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue my softball career at the professional level," said Sinicki. "I'm surrounded by so many supporters who have pushed, challenged, and believed in me, and I feel truly blessed. I thank God every day for allowing me to play the game I love."
After winning the NFCA Rawlings Gold Glove at shortstop in 2024, Sinicki led Oregon to the Big Ten championship and the Women's College World Series the next year with her best season at the plate as a senior. The Ducks won the Big Ten with a 19-3 record and finished 54-10 overall following their first trip to the WCWS in seven years. Oregon was ranked No. 5 in the final NFCA Top 25.
The Henderson, Nev., native set career highs in virtually every offensive category in 2025. Playing and starting all 64 games, Sinicki hit .376 with 14 doubles, six triples, eight home runs and 50 RBI. She slugged .652 and stole 32-of-34 bases. She was second in the Big Ten in steals and triples and seventh in the league with 61 runs.
Defensively, Sinicki led the team with 116 assists and was named to the Big Ten all-defensive team. For her career, she was a three-time all-defensive team selection (one Big Ten, two Pac-12) and was the 2024 Pac-12 co-defensive player of the year.
Sinicki was named to the Big Ten and NFCA Mountain Region first teams and was a 2025 Academic All-American after graduating from Oregon with a 3.77 grade point average in human physiology.
"I'm excited to keep growing, both as an athlete and as a person, while learning from the amazing players and coaches in this league," said Sinicki. "I also feel extremely fortunate to have Jami (Lobpries) as our GM. Seeing the work she's put into building this softball community is inspiring. I'm so thankful for the chance to be part of Cascade and can't wait for what's ahead."
Sinicki is the first Duck to be drafted professionally since Allee Bunker was selected 16th overall by the USSSA Pride in the 2023 Women's Professional Fastpitch draft. Overall, Sinicki is the 20th Duck to be drafted.
She joins U.S. National Team members Gwen Svekis (2020-24) and Janie (Takeda) Reed (2020-21), as well as DJ Sanders (2020-23) and Karissa Hovinga (2020) on the list of former Ducks who have played in the AUSL. Sinicki herself appeared in one game for the AUSL Talons in the summer of 2025 as an injury replacement.
Also Monday, assistant coach Sydney Romero was selected by the Oklahoma City Spark in the 2025 AUSL Expansion Draft. Romero, who played for the AUSL champion Talons in 2025, was the fifth overall pick.
She will now play professionally in the same state where she earned two first team All-America awards and won NCAA Championships in 2016 and 2017 with the Oklahoma Sooners. Romero was named the 2019 Big 12 Player of the Year and was a top-three finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. She was also a 2019 Senior CLASS Award Finalist and was named to two Women's College World Series all-tournament teams (2016, 2019).
The four-time all-Big 12 selection finished her career as Oklahoma's all-time leader in at-bats (853) and doubles (58). She also ranked second in OU career history in hits (320), extra-base hits (121) and total bases (558); third in games played (258); fourth in RBIs (215); fifth in batting average (.375), runs scored (229) and home runs (54); sixth in assists (367) and seventh in slugging percentage (.654).
