2004 ? A talented left-handed pitcher, Kontra provides a strong balance to the Ducks’ pitching staff. Although she played a limited role in 2004, Kontra’s contributions in her 13 appearances were a nice complement to Oregon’s starting pitchers. Pitched a season-high four and two thirds innings vs. Florida Atlantic Feb. 7. With the Ducks trailing 3-0 with one out in the third inning, Kontra took over and kept the Owls’ offense at bay for the remainder of the game. Kontra allowed just two hits and didn’t allow another run. In back to back appearances vs. Rutgers and Temple, Kontra didn’t allow an earned run in five innings of work and struck out four batters. A day later, Kontra came into relief vs. Northwestern and was key in helping the Ducks secure their 14th-consecutive win of the season while also earning her lone win of the year. When Oregon faced team USA in an exhibition game March 6, it was Kontra who went the distance for Oregon. Kontra’s off-speed pitching kept team USA at bay as she allowed just one run in the second inning and two in the third and then keeping Team USA scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings. Although Team USA went on to win, 7-0, Oregon ? led by Kontra on the mound ? was one of just a handful of teams that went seven innings vs. the Olympic gold medalists.
2003 ? Made the most of each opportunity that presented itself, finishing the season with a perfect 6-0 record. In her first appearance of the season, Kontra struck out five in four innings pitched en route to earning her first win of the year. A week later, Kontra threw six and a third innings and allowed no runs to pick up her second victory of the season. She pitched her lone complete game of the year the following week against Florida A&M, striking out five and giving up just one earned run. Put together her best weekend of play at the NIST in Sunnyvale, Calif., picking up a win vs. No. 24 Minnesota and Santa Clara to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Was also a factor for the Ducks’ offense in the 11-4 win over Florida A&M, finishing the game 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
2002 ? Played in 24 games and started 17 contests as a true freshman. Offensively, Kontra made limited appearances, but showed potential, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI against Southern Utah. Was 1-for-3 against Colorado State with a double and finished the year with two doubles. Defensively, the lefty was second on the team with a 3.17 ERA and third with 50 strike outs. Proved to be an impressive factor in Oregon’s upset win over then fifth-ranked Arizona State, nabbing the victory and claiming one of just two Pac-10 wins for Oregon. Lost three games, including Stanford and Oregon State, by just one run. In the Ducks’ first tournament of the season, Kontra picked up wins over Texas Tech and Southwest Texas, tallying 10 strike outs in those two games.
