David Kelly

David Kelly joined the Oregon athletic department in 2017, and works as an assistant athletic director for football recruiting operations. Kelly came to Eugene from South Florida along with head coach Willie Taggart.
At South Florida, Kelly spent one season as director of player personnel for Taggart’s program. Kelly is a highly respected football coach and recruiter at the collegiate and professional ranks, and he has successfully coached and recruited athletes in the SEC, ACC, Pac- 10 and Conference USA. Kelly has also obtained valuable experiences in the National Football League (NFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the recently formed Major League Football (MLFB).
Kelly began his coaching career at the high school level, compiling a record of 80-36-1. He served for 10 successful seasons as a head high school football coach, winning the Georgia 4A State Football Championship in 1993. Kelly progressed to coach at the college level for 20 years with assignments at the Georgia, LSU, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Duke, and Central Florida.
His recruiting accomplishments include being named one of the top 25 college football recruiters in the nation by ESPN in 2010 and by Rivals in 2009. He has extensive contacts across the country at the high school, collegiate and professional levels as well as within related sectors of sports and athletics.
Kelly’s experiences in the NFL, the CFL, and with MLFB provide an additional level of knowledge and expertise at the professional level. He recently served as an NFL offensive assistant coach with the Arizona Cardinals during the 2015 preseason training camp and games, and as a quarterbacks coach with MLFB. He has worked with ESPN’s Jon Gruden Quarterback Show and other elite performance organizations training high school, college and professional athletes.
Kelly earned his undergraduate degree in 1979 from Furman, and two years later received his Master’s in education. He was a four-year letterman in football at the wide receiver, tailback and cornerback positions at Furman.
