After spending one season as a graduate assistant under Oregon defensive coordinator Andy Avalos at Boise State, Kharyee Marshall reunited with Avalos following the 2019 season.
Marshall spent a pair of seasons at Boise State after starting his coaching career at the College of Idaho following his collegiate playing career.
BOISE STATE (2018-2019)
A former standout defensive lineman for the Broncos, Marshall spent two seasons as a Boise State defensive graduate assistant. Marshall worked primarily with the Broncos’ defensive linemen.
Boise State finished 22-5 during Marshall’s two seasons on the staff, while boasting a 15-1 record in Mountain West Conference games. The Broncos won the 2019 conference title going undefeated in league games while finishing 12-2 overall. In his first season, BSU won the MWC Mountain Division title with a 7-1 league record while finishing 10-3 overall.
During his stint in Boise, Marshall helped coach All-America defensive end Curtis Weaver, the 2019 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Weaver, a two-time first-team All-MWC selection and the fifth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft, was one of seven defensive lineman who earned eight all-conference honors during Marshall’s two seasons with the Broncos.
In addition to Weaver, Jabril Frazier claimed first-team honors in 2018 while Durrant Miles earned honorable mention recognition that season. In 2019, Chase Hatada and David Moa were second-team picks while Sonatane Lui claimed honorable mention accolades.
COLLEGE OF IDAHO (2014-2017)
Prior to rejoining his alma mater, Marshall spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the College of Idaho. He coached defensive ends his first two seasons (2014-15), then coached cornerbacks in 2016 before taking over as defensive line coach in 2017.
After football returned to C of I after a 37-year hiatus, Marshall was part of the Coyotes staff that brought the sport back to the school. After three four-win seasons, Marshall helped the Yotes to its first winning season since 1969. Two players, Trevor Henderson and Josh Price, garnered second-team All-Frontier Conference recognition under Marshall’s tutelage during his final season.
PLAYING CAREER & PERSONAL
Marshall spent five seasons at Boise State lettering in three of those years. He started all 13 games during his senior season. In his five years with the Broncos, Boise State compiled a 57-9 record, with 37 wins in 39 conference games. Marshall was a part of three conference championship teams while playing in four bowl games. He redshirted during the 2009 season when the Broncos won the Fiesta Bowl. Marshall graduated from BSU in 2013 with a degree in psychology and married his wife, Julia, in 2016.
