Jason Gill became head coach George Horton's first official hire, when he joined the Ducks on Sept. 1, 2007.
Coach Gill has worked as an assistant under Coach Horton for the past three years, serving as infield coach, recruiting coordinator and as the team’s primary hitting instructor. In his three years, the Titans made it to Omaha twice, won two Big West championships and had 35 players drafted. Coach Gill’s 2007 recruiting class was ranked in the top 10 in the nation by both Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America.
Before joining Coach Horton, Gill spent three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at UC Irvine. Gill’s first recruiting class was ranked eighth in the country by Baseball America with the following two classes among Collegiate Baseball’s top 30. Prior to UCI, Gill was an assistant coach at Loyola Marymount for two years where he helped guide the Lions to WCC titles and postseason berths in both years.
Coach Gill also served two years as an assistant coach at Nevada. While there the Wolfpack made the post season for the just the second time in school history and the 1997 team currently holds nine offensive team records. In addition, his tutelage of the infielders was instrumental in placing Nevada first in the country in double plays in 1997 and 1998.
The former Fullerton infielder started his coaching career as an undergraduate assistant coach on both the 1995 national championship and 1996 Fullerton squads. Overall, Coach Gill has been to Omaha four times as a player and a coach. In his 12 years of coaching, has been a part of six conference championships, coached four conference players of the year and been to the postseason a total of nine times.
A California product who prepped at Mater Dei H.S. in Santa Ana, Gill and his wife Kacey relocated to Eugene from Costa Mesa, Calif.
