Lanning, who was a part of Martin’s staff from 2011-13, returns to Eugene after three years as the head coach at Loyola Marymount. At LMU Lanning helped advance a golfer to appearances in consecutive NCAA West Regionals, as well as All-WCC honors for top recruit Riley Elmes. He also helped guide the Lions to their first team tournament title since 2009 winning the Bill Cullum Invitational in 2015.
Following his tenure at LMU, Lanning spent the past year as the assistant golf pro at Sand Valley Golf Resort in Rome, Wisc.
Lanning’s previous stint at Oregon was highly successful as he helped the Ducks make back-to-back trips to the NCAA Regionals earning a third place finish at the NCAA Golf Championships in 2011-12.
Lanning and Martin have a long history of success together having been teammates for three seasons at Stanford helping the Cardinal to a national championship title in 1994.
After college, Lanning spent six years playing professionally with stints on the Hooters Tour, South American Tour and Canadian PGA, earning 22 top-20 finishes and four top-five finishes before entering the coaching ranks.
Lanning accomplished a great deal upon making the transition to a high school assistant coach with a state title and runner-up finish in two years at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Bradenton, Fla. After relocating to Colorado to enter a master’s program at Denver Seminary, Lanning assisted Valor Christian High School to a pair of state championships during his two seasons at VCHS.
A 1994 Stanford graduate with a degree in Political Science, Lanning earned his master’s in Counseling at Denver Seminary in 2011.
Lanning and his wife Pamela have one son, Gavin, and one daughter, Ashley.
