Josh Seitz begins his sixth season as a member of the Oregon track and field and cross country staff. He enters his first full year as the Ducks’ assistant coach after initially being promoted to assist with the men’s distance group during the 2026 track and field season. Seitz also maintains his title as Assistant AD for Track and Field Operations at Oregon.
During the past five seasons, Oregon has won 12 conference titles—seven women, five men—including 10 of the 12 league championships since joining the Big Ten ahead of the 2024-25 academic year. The Ducks also swept the men’s and women’s Program of the Year honors this past season as the highest combined achieving teams across the NCAA cross country, indoor and outdoor championships.
Seitz spent the previous 5.5 years as the men’s and women’s distance coach at Portland State. In that time, he coached his athletes to 11 school records, two Big Sky conference titles, two All-America honors and the first NCAA Division I cross country individual qualifier (Katie Camarena) in school history. Under his guidance, Camarena also broke Big Sky Conference records in the mile and 3,000 meters.
Seitz was also the USTFCCCA Cross Country Executive Committee Men’s West Region Representative (2018-22), and served as a member of the Big Sky Aspiring Head Coaches Cohort and its Mental Health Subcommittee over the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
After beginning his collegiate coaching career at Morehead State, Seitz spent four years at Florida State. In 2015, he was named interim head coach for the women’s distance team. Among the highlights, he coached Colleen Quigley to an NCAA championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and an ACC title at 1500 meters. He continued to coach her through the USA Championships, where she finished third in the steeplechase and qualified for the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.
Seitz was a cross country and track and field student-athlete at Southern Oregon where he was a member of the 2010 NAIA national championship cross country team. Seitz earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration from Southern Oregon in 2011 and went on to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from Morehead State in 2013.
Seitz also spent time working outside of athletics including his experience as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Kenya in 2016. He taught English at a U.S. Embassy-funded cultural exchange program at the Bungoma Muslim Secondary School. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Seitz traveled across Kenya to meet with training camps, teachers, and families to spread awareness about the opportunities the NCAA provides, and specifically encourage families and teachers to keep girls in high school through graduation.
