Sophie McLaughlin was named an assistant coach for the Oregon lacrosse program in June 2026. She directs the Ducks' goalkeepers and draw units.
McLaughlin joined Oregon after spending the past five years with 802 Lacrosse Club, including three seasons as head coach from 2023-25. She also served as a goalkeeper instructor and recruiting liaison for women's lacrosse camps at her alma mater, the University of Vermont, from 2019-24.
McLaughlin enjoyed an impressive playing career at Vermont, where she played for the Catamounts from 2019-23 alongside current Oregon assistant coach Carolyn Carrera under current Oregon head coach Jess Drummond.
McLaughlin amassed a number of career accolades, including America East Goalkeeper of the Year (2021), America East First Team All-Conference (2021), America East Second Team All-Conference (2023), America East All-Championship Team (2022), America East Elite 18 Team (2022), eight America East Defensive Player of the Week selections, five America East Commissioner's Honor Roll recognitions, three America East All-Academic Team honors, two Team MVP awards and two IWLCA Academic Honor Roll selections.
One of the most decorated players in Vermont history, the Keene, N.H. native started 54 games in goal and finished her career as the winningest goalkeeper in program history. She earned a bachelor's degree in health sciences and a master's degree in public health while excelling both on the field and in the classroom.
