Ducks Fall to #21 Sun Devils, 28-13

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Andrew Walter overcame a shaky start to throw three touchdown passes and third-string tailback Hakim Hill ran for 134 yards and a touchdown to help No. 21 Arizona State beat Oregon 28-13 on Saturday night.
Hill was playing in place of suspended starter Loren Wade and injured backup Randy Hill for the Sun Devils (5-0, 2-0 Pac-10), off to their best start since winning 11 straight in their 1996 Rose Bowl season.
Oregon (1-3, 0-1), which had won seven straight Pac-10 openers, held the ball nearly six minutes longer than the Sun Devils and outgained them 311-283, but the Ducks also lost 83 yards on 10 penalties.
Walter, who threw for 957 yards and seven touchdowns against the Ducks the previous two seasons, was held to 164 yards on 14-of-23 passing. The senior came into the game with 1,085 yards passing and 12 touchdowns this season, but completed only one of his first five passes for 6 yards.

He threw a 22-yard scoring strike to Jamaal Lewis early in the second quarter to give the Sun Devils a 7-3 lead, and connected with Terry Richardson for a 24-yard scoring play later in the half to make it 14-6.
The Sun Devils made it 21-6 on the first drive of the second half, with Hakim Hill scoring a 1-yard run after putting the team in scoring position with a 56-yarder.
The Ducks answered with their first touchdown, a shuttle pass from quarterback Kellen Clemens to Terrence Whitehead that the tailback took 9 yards to pull Oregon to 21-13 with 2:13 to play in the third quarter.
The Sun Devils scored the only points of the fourth quarter on Walter's 1-yard pass to Rudy Burgess with 3:07 to play.
Clemens passed for 177 yards for Oregon, and Whitehead ran 23 times for 98 yards.
