10/05/04 | Women's Golf
SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- Kim McCready's even par 72 boosted Oregon to second place after the second round of the 23rd annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational women's golf tournament played Tuesday at the par-72, 6,192-yard Sahalee Golf and Country Club.
McCready, a sophomore from Placerville, Calif., had one birdie -- on the par-4 fourth hole -- one bogey and 16 pars to card her best round as a collegian. Her previous low was a 74 several times, including Monday's first round. McCready's two round total of 146 was tied for third with Long Beach State's Kay Hoey.
Oklahoma State teammates Karin Sjodin and Annie Thurman held the top two spots as the eighth-ranked Cowgirls maintained their overall lead. Sjodin shot a 73 Tuesday and held a one stroke lead at 143 over Thurman, who carded a 2-under 70, which was the low individual round Tuesday.
Oklahoma State recorded a 301 in the second round for a 597 total. The Ducks shot a 304 and were seven strokes back at 604, while USC moved up to third at 605. Those three teams will play in Wednesday's final grouping, which is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., though each of the first two rounds have been delayed by fog. Live scoring will be available on line at www.golfstat.com.
No. 9 Pepperdine led the next group of teams at 614. Washington State was fifth at 615 and second-ranked Washington was sixth at 617. No. 20 Stanford was at 620, San Francisco at 622, Nevada-Las Vegas at 318, No. 22 Brigham Young at 627 and No. 21 California was 11th at 628.
Junior Erin Andrews had a 4-over 76 for Oregon, while senior Johnna Nealy from Grants Pass, Ore., carded a 6-over 78. For the tournament, both Ducks were tied for 12th at 7-over 151. Junior Michelle Timpani notched her second straight 78 for Oregon and was tied for 30th at 12-over 156.
The Ducks are shooting for their best finish ever in the Edean Ihlanfeldt. Oregon finished third in both 1993 and 1994. Last year, the Ducks were fifth, which was their highest finish in the event since 1994.
