Jessica Davenport had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 10 Ohio State to a 73-58 victory over Oregon on Saturday night in the Nike Classic.
Caity Matter added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Buckeyes (10-1), who have won seven straight.
"I thought we showed composure," Ohio State coach Jim Foster said. "This is the kind of environment you love to play in, where good teams show how good they can be. We did a great job taking care of business."
Cathrine Kraayeveld led all scorers with 21 points for the Ducks (7-1).
"There were times when we weren't playing well offensively," Kraayeveld said. "There were times we were making runs but we were trading basket for basket and we lost momentum. We were taking shots but some didn't fall in. We still have to be aggressive. We have to keep making shots when they're open."
Ohio State led by as many as 15 points early in the second half, when Davenport's jumper made it 37-22. But Oregon stayed in it, and closed to within 51-47 on Chelsea Wagner's two free throws.
"The game was fun, there was a fun, loud crowd, like at the Notre Dame game," Davenport said of McArthur Court's 4,471 fans. "This is a great atmosphere to play in."
Ohio State regrouped with a timeout and embarked on a 15-4 run, capped by Alice Jamen's jumper and Matter's pair of free throws to make it 66-51.
"Ohio State is a good team," Oregon coach Bev Smith said. "They did well defensively. They were tough. On offense, they made big shots when they needed them. They were tough to crack even when we were catching up (in the second half). I think it's a reflection of how practice went this week ... but that's not to take away from Ohio State's win."
The Buckeyes, the Big Ten's best 3-point shooting team, hit six of 14 3-point attempts. Matter had one 3-pointer out of four tries, giving her 218 career 3s to tie her with Katie Smith for the Ohio State record.
Brandie Hoskins had 11 points and Ashley Allen added 10 for Ohio State, which led 31-22 at the half.
The Buckeyes outrebounded the Ducks 42-22.
Oregon next plays at Arkansas on Tuesday at 5 p.m. PST.
"We are going to practice tomorrow, watch tape and fly out," Smith said. "We need a quick turnaround. They are an athletic team. We have to practice well to prepare ourselves."
