Perfection Continues For Women's Tennis

LEWISTON, Idaho.
- Same result, different day for the Oregon women's tennis team (9-0, 2-0) as they defeated the Washington State Cougars (1-3, 0-0), 4-3, at the Lewis-Clark State Tennis Center. The win helps the Ducks remain perfect on the season and set them up for a showdown against No. 5 Washington (6-1, 0-0) Saturday in Seattle, Wash.
Oregon has produced nine-wins this season, and not surprisingly, nine doubles points as well. Daria Panova and Courtney Nagle made easy work of Lorena Aria and Chris Martinez, 8-1. The No. 18-ranked duo is now 5-2 in dual matches on the season.
Freshman Dominika Dieskova and sophomore Anna Leksinska came up short in their bid for a seventh win, losing to WSU's Orsolya Sallai and Zsofia Fodor, 9-7. Davina Mendiburu and Ester Bak clinched the doubles point by taking down Nora Gaal and Amy Toth, 8-5.
In singles, the Ducks split the six matches, 3-3, highlighted by team-captain Courtney Nagle's three set victory over Chris Martinez, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The win gave the Ducks their fourth point and ran Nagle's dual record to a perfect 7-0 from the No. 3 position.
Junior Daria Panova took care of business, defeating Orsolya Sallai, 6-2, 6-0. The No. 8-ranked Panova is now 7-0 in dual matches and 21-4 overall on the season. Freshman Dominika Dieskova fell to Lorena Arias, 7-6, 6-1, dropping the native Slovakian's dual record to 7-2.
Davina Mendiburu continued to play nothing short of perfect, taking down Nora Gaal, 6-0, 6-2. Mendiburu is a flawless 9-0 in dual matches and 12-0 overall on the season.
Sophomore Jamie Marshall and Anna Leksinska both fell short at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Marshall was defeated by Amy Toth, 6-2, 6-4, while Leksinska dropped a tough three set match to Zsofia Fodor, 7-6, 4-6, (10-5).
"It was a good win for us," said Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander. "It was a tough place to play, but we came through when we needed it. We need to make sure we have a high-level of intensity from the entire lineup when we take on the Huskies."
The Ducks travel to Seattle to take on the No. 5 Washington Huskies Saturday, Feb. 20, at noon. The match will again count toward overall records, but not toward the Ducks' Pac-10 record. Oregon will compete against both Washington schools again in March for conference implications.
