
Ducks Finish Second at Oregon Duck Invitational

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. ? San Diego State used a final round 1-under 287 to pull away from the pack and win the 2004 Oregon Duck Invitational Tuesday at Shadow Hills Country Club. The Aztecs defeated Oregon by six strokes 861-867. Still, it was Oregon's best finish of the season and the Ducks' best overall since winning this event in 2002.
Jeff Hansen led SDSU to the team title by claiming medalist honors. He shot a 1-under 71 Tuesday that gave him a three-round total of 5-under 211. That was one stroke better than Oregon State's Brad Simpson, who finished at 4-under, and two better than SDSU's Mark Warman who finished at 213.
Senior Mike Sica led Oregon by tying for fourth at 1-under 215. The senior closed with a 1-over 73 that gave him the best finish of his career. Freshman Dustin Pewarchuk also landed in the top 10, tying for ninth at 218, also his best finish as a Duck.
Sophomore Justin St. Clair of Springfield, Ore., tied for 11th at 219, while sophomore Kyle Johnson of North Bend, Ore., led Oregon's second team by tying for 13th at 221. Freshman Matt Ma also finished tied for 13th after firing a 73 Tuesday.
After San Diego State and Oregon, Stanford was next at 879, followed by Oregon State at 884 and Nevada at 888.
Oregon next competes in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational April 9-10 in Tempe, Ariz.
