Coastal Carolina Halts Softball Streak

CLEARWATER, Fla. ? The No. 14 University of Oregon softball team had its 14-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Coastal Carolina at the Speedline Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., Saturday afternoon. With the win, Coastal Carolina improves to 5-9 overall this season while Oregon dropped to 17-5 and 4-1 at the tournament.
The setback marks the first time since Feb. 14 that the Ducks have lost a game and prior to Saturday's loss, Oregon was in the midst of the longest win streak in school history. "We just needed a few more timely hits," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "But, I thought our players battled until the end and really believed they could find a way to win. It just didn't go our way, but I'm pleased with how we continued to fight." Kristina Sheppard drove in shortstop Sara Hostetler with a home run deep to center field to give Coastal Carolina the early 2-0 lead, but Oregon quickly cut the deficit in half after Jenn Poore led off with a single in the bottom of the third inning and scored on a double by Breanne Sabol. It was all the scoring Coastal Carolina would need as the Ducks were unable to score and left six runners on base.
