
Women's Golf In 14th After Two Rounds in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. ? The Oregon women's golf team returned to Karsten Golf Course early Saturday morning to complete the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational, after getting only three holes in before play was suspended Friday due to persistent thunderstorms in the greater Tempe area.
As a team, Oregon shot six strokes better than their first-round effort, closing the day with a second-round 305.The Ducks stand 14th in the 17-team tournament at 616, one stroke behind in-state rival Oregon State.
Individually, sophomore Therese Wenslow, a native of Sweden, leads the Duck squad through two rounds, and is knotted in a tie for 24th-place at 149, a five place improvement from her first-round standing.Wenslow shot 75 in her opening round, and followed with a 74. Junior Johnna Nealy was the second-highest finisher for the Ducks Saturday, finishing the second-round in a tie for 60th-place, at 154, thanks to a four-stroke improvement in the second round, shooting a 75. Sophomore Michelle Tempani, and freshman Kimberly McCready both shot second-round scores of 78, and sit in 68th and 75th respectively, with tournament totals of 156 and 158. The final Duck finishers were sophomore Erin Andrews, who struggled through a second-round 81 to drop to 82nd overall (160), after being in a tie for 60th after first-round play, and Jess Carlyon, in 91st, shooting a second-round 87, dropping to 165.
Overall, UCLA used a strong second round 284 to move utop the leaderboard by three strokes at 579 after two-rounds of play, while first-round leader Southern California dropped to second, at 582. Individually, Washington's Paige McKenzie shot a second-round 69 to take the lead at 140, while first-round co-leaders Erica Blasberg of Arizona, and Lisa Ferrero of Texas both shot second-round 72's and dropped intoa tie for third.
The tournament concludes tommorow, as the Duck women will look to use second-round momentum to push themselves up the leaderboard in final-round play.
