Women's Tennis Snuffs Out UC Irvine, 6-1

EUGENE ? The University of Oregon women's tennis team (3-0, 0-0) completed the weekend sweep by defeating UC Irvine, 6-1, at the Student Tennis Center Sunday. Juniors Anna Leksinska and Jamie Marshall both went 3-0 in singles play on the weekend.
For the third consecutive match, Oregon not only won the doubles point but swept all three positions. Senior Daria Panova and sophomore Dominika Dieskova, ranked No. 45 nationally, won their team-leading eight match of the season.
In singles, Panova defeated nationally ranked Anna Bentzer, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. Dieskova won her eighth match of the season, cruising past Izabela Mijic, 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Davina Mendiburu picked up her ninth with of the season (9-1), defeating UCI's Inna Agababian, 7-5, 6-1. The win moved Mendiburu into a tie for tenth on the Oregon all-time career wins list with 55.
Marshall and Leksinska rounded out the Duck winners, producing wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions respectively.
"I am very proud of the way the team played today," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "We have had a lot of nagging injuries so far and over half the team is battling the flu. Today really showed the character of this team."
The Ducks will ditch the rain and head towards snow next weekend as they travel to the Land of 10,000 Lakes to take on Yale (Sat.) and Missouri or Minnesota (Sun.) at the University of Minnesota Court Classic in Minneapolis. Times for both matches are to be announced.
