02/11/05 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE ? The No. 25 Ducks stretched their winning streak to eight with a 6-1 victory over Washington State Friday at the Student Tennis Center. Oregon is one win away from matching last year's 9-0 start and will host No. 9 Washington tomorrow at noon.
The Ducks swept the doubles point, upping their overall dual mark to 22-2. No. 45 Daria Panova and Dominika Dieskova improved to 8-0 in dual play and 13-3 overall with an 8-4 victory over Washington State's Ekaternia Burduli and Nora Gaal. Seniors Ester Bak and Davina Mendiburu also improved to 8-0 in dual play, winning at the No. 3 position.
"It was a complete effort today," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "It wasn't three or four players but rather the entire team. We are playing really good tennis and are really looking forward to the matchup with the Huskies tomorrow."
In singles, Bak and Dieskova quickly grabbed Oregon its second and third point with straight sets victories. Dieskova, ranked No. 34, is now 13-5 on the year and 7-1 in dual action.
The Ducks got the match clinching victory at the No. 1 position as Panova defeated WSU's Burduli, 7-6, 6-1. After a 2-5 fall record, Panova is now 7-0 in dual play.
Mendiburu improved to 14-1 on the year and 7-1 in duals, defeating Chris Martinez, 6-3, 4-6, (10-3) at the No. 3 spot.
Junior Anna Leksinska rounded out the Ducks' victories, with a three set triumph over WSU's Amy Toth.
The Ducks are 40-9 in singles dual matches so far this season.
The match today was considered a non-conference match as the Ducks will travel to Washington State and Washington later this season for conference record implications.
Oregon hosts rival No. 9 Washington tomorrow (Sat.) at the Student Tennis Center at noon.
