Softball Scores Second Shutout After 5-0 Win Over Jacksonville
02/05/05 | Softball
HONOLULU, Hawaii ? Oregon shortstop Breanne Sabol accounted for four of the Ducks' five runs and pitcher Alicia Cook allowed just two hits as the 13th-ranked softball team shutout Jacksonville, 5-0, Saturday at the Hawaii Paradise Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Sabol finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases. In two games, Sabol is 6-for-8 with four runs scored and three RBI while junior Dani Baird is 5-for-6 in the Ducks' two wins after going 3-for-4 against Jacksonville Saturday.
Cook was impressive again, giving up no runs and no walks in six innings of work. Cook has allowed just two batters to reach base in nine innings pitched and has not given up a walk.
As a team, Oregon had five stolen bases, one shy of the school record six set against Utah State in 2000. The Ducks had 10 hits against the Dolphins as six different players recorded a hit. Oregon now has 24 hits and 18 RBI in its first two games.
Oregon took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after an RBI single by Dani Baird that scored Sabol. Sabol extended Oregon's lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning, driving in Erin Goodell with a single through the left side. Junior Beth Boskovich added to the rally with a home run to deep center field, scoring Sabol and putting the Ducks ahead 4-0.
Sabol drove in another run in the fifth inning, scoring freshman Krisit Jorgensen, who finished the game 1-for-3.
Oregon plays host Hawaii tonight at 6 p.m. PST.
