Duck Golfers Climb to Eighth in Ihlanfeldt Final Round
10/11/06 | Women's Golf
SAMMAMISH, Wash. – In its third stop of the fall campaign, the University of Oregon women's golf team improved one spot to eighth place in the third and final round of the University of Washington's Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Wednesday.
Oregon improved its four-player score for the second straight day and carded a 309 (+21) Wednesday after it shot 311 Monday and 310 Tuesday. The Ducks' score of 929 also ranked them sixth among the nine Pac-10 schools on hand.
UO senior Kim McCready carded an even-par 72 Wednesday on the 6,130-yard Sahalee Golf Course after she shot scores of 77 both Monday and Tuesday. McCready ended the tourney tied for 12th with her overall score of 226 and led UO for the fourth time in nine rounds of play this season.
McCready's scorecard Wednesday revealed 14 holes at par, a pair of bogeys on the par-4 first and third holes, and birdies on the par-5 sixth and 18th holes.
The Placerville, Calif., native also enjoyed her third round of 72 or better in the past seven rounds this fall – a fine return to form after she missed much of the 2006 spring season with injuries.
Sophomore Cathryn Bristow also remained in the top-20 overall (17th-tie, 77-75-76-228), while freshmen Felicia Eastick (36th-tie, 79-78-80-237) and Kate Hildahl (51st, 78-80-84-242) both ranked top-four for the Ducks for the third straight round.
Senior Therese Wenslow rounded out UO's contingent (65th-tie, 86-83-81-249).
Overall in the team standings, No. 13 Stanford extended its lead by five strokes to win by six (303-297-296-896) over No. 30 New Mexico (second, 301-300-301-902) and No. 6 Arizona State (third, 299-306-299-904).
Other schools in the 15-team field included Pepperdine (fourth, 302-307-303-912), No. 19 USC (fifth, 310-308-304-922), No. 4 Arizona (sixth, 301-313-310-924), Washington (seventh, 305-313-307-925), Oregon (eighth, 311-310-309-930), No. 22 BYU (ninth, 305-312-316-933), No. 32 UNLV (10th, 318-311-312-941), No. 37 San Francisco (11th, 324-312-313-949), California (12th, 317-320-313-950), Washington State (13th, 312-320-322-954), Long Beach State (313-321-322-956) and Oregon State (15th, 321-331-314-966).
The day's individual leader coming in, Stanford's Mari Chun, survived a 75 final round and even added a stroke to her advantage at day's end to win by two (68-72-75-215) over New Mexico's Jodi Ewart (second, 71-75-71-217), Arizona State's Jennifer Osborn (third, 77-73-68-218) and Pepperdine's Misun Cho (fourth, 75-74-70-219).
