
UW Grinds Out Win Over Ducks in Pac-10 Opener, 60-56

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Cameo Hicks scored seven points in the final minute to lead Washington to a 60-56 victory against Oregon on Thursday in the Pacific-10 Conference opener for both teams.
Hicks, who scored a game-high 18 points, nailed a 3-pointer with 37.6 seconds remaining to give the Huskies (8-4, 1-0 Pac-10) a seven-point lead. She then made four free throws to finish the Washington scoring.
Maggie O'Hara chipped in nine points and nine rebounds for the Huskies, who have won eight of their last 10 games.
Eleanor Haring led Oregon (7-3, 0-1) with 17 points followed by Tamika Nurse with 11. Nurse made two free throws with 3:03 remaining to cut the deficit to 48-46, before Washington scored on back-to-back possessions to push the lead to seven.
Oregon's Kaela Chapdelaine hit a 3-pointer with 1:05 left to cut the lead to 53-49 before Hicks answered on the Huskies' ensuing possession.
Oregon, which led the conference in defensive field-goal percentage, held the Huskies to 25 percent shooting in the first half. Washington, however, grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, leading to 11 second-chance points and a 23-19 halftime lead.
The Ducks host Washington State (5-6, 1-0) on Saturday at 5 p.m. at McArthur Court.
