Ducks Finish in 18th Place at Hawaii-Hilo Invitational

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Sophomore Joey Benedetti shot the only under par round of the Hawaii-Hilo Invitational for the Ducks as they moved up one spot in the team standings, finishing in 18th place after the final round, played at the par-71 Waikoloa Club Golf Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
Fellow Sophomore Derek Sipe shot his second consecutive round of 75 to finish the tournament tied for 55th place.
Senior Gregg LaVoie turned in a even-par performance in the final round, besting his previous two rounds by six strokes. The 2005 All-American had carded 77's in his first two rounds, but rebounded in the final round to finish tied for 78th place.
Also tying for 78th place was Junior Matt Ma, returning to his native Hawaii, who carded a 5-over 76 in the final round.
Justin St. Clair rebounded from his second round 80 to shoot 74. The senior team captain finished the tournament tied for 92nd place.
Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale held off a charge from Hawaii's Travis Toyama and took the individual championship by one stroke. Tringale and the Yellow Jackets would easily run away from the field and take the team title by 14 strokes over 2nd place Oklahoma. As a team, Georgia Tech shot 27-under par for the tournament.
