
Ducks Split in the Desert, Defeat Wildcats 59-55

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Kaela Chapdelaine led Oregon with 10 points, and Eleanor Haring made two free throws with 3 seconds left to seal a 59-55 victory over Arizona Saturday.
Arizona's Ashley Whisonant had a chance to tie the game with seven seconds left but missed a crowded shot inside the lane.
Haring, who had nine points, grabbed the board and converted her charity tosses to give the Ducks (14-10, 6-8 Pac-10) a four-point cushion and break a six-game losing streak in McKale Center.
Whisonant led Arizona (9-18, 3-12 Pac-10) with 14 points. The Wildcats' Joy Hollingsworth, the Pac-10's sixth-leading scorer, was limited to six points on 3 of 10 shooting.
Oregon's Carolyn Ganes, who scored all nine of her points in the second half, connected on a 14-foot baseline jumper with 2:53 left to give the Ducks a 56-49 lead.
Arizona crept back to within two points on a Linda Pace jumper in the lane with 44 seconds left. That was the closest the Wildcats would get.
Oregon came out quick in the first half with a trio of threes and had a three-point play to build a 14-4 edge.
Hollingsworth sparked a 14-2 run with a pair of short jumpers for Arizona to overcome the early deficit and give the Wildcats an 18-16 lead with 7:31 remaining.
Haring converted a three-point play with 17 seconds left in the first half to send the teams into the locker room tied at 25-25.
In the second half, Oregon's Micaele Cocks hit a three-pointer and then a short jumper to give Oregon a 44-41 lead with 9:28 remaining after trailing for most of the half. Chapdelaine added a pair of free throws to extend the edge to five.
Whisonant made a pair of free throws and a lay-in to trim Oregon's edge to 46-45 with 7:02 remaining, only to have Jamie Hawkins and Chapdelaine get back-to-back buckets inside to go back ahead by five.
