Dukeminier Leads Ducks at OSU

CORVALLIS, Ore. ? Freshman Jack Dukeminier shot back-to-back rounds of 68 to lead the Oregon men's golf team to second place after two rounds of the OSU Giustina Memorial, played Monday at the 7,030-yard, par-72 Trysting Tree Golf Course.

Playing in the 2007-08 season opener, the Ducks were five shots off the pace set by host Oregon State. The Beavers posted a 19-under 557. Oregon, the defending champion of the tournament, was at 14-under 562 following rounds of 277-285.

Portland and Fresno State were tied for third at 566, with UC Irvine fifth at 567 and Washington State sixth at 570.

Individually, Vincent Johnson of Oregon State and Troy Merritt of Boise State shared the overnight lead at 9-under 135.

Dukeminier, from Eugene, Ore., was alone in third at 136, with Oregon State's James Allenby a stroke behind at 137.

Oregon senior Derek Sipe was tied for the 10th at 141 after rounds of 69-72.

Also for the Ducks, freshman Sean Maekawa was tied for 13th at 142, senior Joey Benedetti was tied for 24th at 145 and senior Ted Whitney was tied for 34th at 147.

The final round will begin at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
