Maekawa Takes Seventh at OSU

CORVALLIS, Ore. ? Oregon freshman Sean Maekawa shot a final round 69 to finish seventh at the OSU Giustina Memorial, played Tuesday at the 7,030-yard, par-72 Trysting Tree Golf Course.

Oregon tied for third with UC Irvine and Portland at 11-under 853.

Oregon State won the event by eight strokes thanks to top-three finishes from Vincent Johnson and James Allenby. Johnson was second at 11-under 205, while Allenby took third at 10-under 206.

The Beavers closed with a 2-under 286 and finished the tournament at 21-under 843.

Fresno State was second at 851, followed by Oregon, UC Irvine and Portland, with Washington State sixth at 860.

Maekawa, from Pa'auilo, Hawaii, was seventh at 5-under 211.

The Ducks also had top-15 finishes from senior Derek Sipe and freshman Jack Dukeminier. Sipe tied for eighth at 4-under 212 after shooting a 71 Tuesday. Dukeminier was 12th at 3-under 213 following a final round 77.

Also for Oregon, Joey Benedetti tied for 26th at 219 and Ted Whitney tied for 43rd at 227.

Troy Merritt of Boise State won medalist honors at 12-under 204 after shooting a 69 Tuesday.
