No. 7 Stanford Trumps Oregon

STANFORD, Calif. ? Oregon's 21-year drought at Maples Pavilion was extended on Saturday afternoon, as the seventh-ranked Cardinal reassured its Pac-10 dominance with an 83-49 victory over Oregon in front of 3,640.
The Cardinal improves to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the Pac-10, while Oregon drops to an even 8-8 and 2-3 in conference.
Stanford senior Candice Wiggins, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Month for December and USA Basketball's 2007 Female Athlete of the Year, led all scorers with 20 points. The Cardinal's Jillian Harmon and Jeanette Pohlen, added 15 apiece.
The Ducks were plagued by a season-high tying 27 turnovers and 36.7 percent shooting.
Stanford's 83 points were also the most Oregon has allowed this season. The Cardinal shot 51.5 percent from the floor, and dropped seven three-pointers, compared to two from the Ducks.
Freshman forward Ellie Manou led Oregon in scoring for the second time this year with 10, the only Duck to reach double figures. Oregon's leading scorer Taylor Lilley was held to just two points.
Head coach Bev Smith issued extended playing time to Oregon freshmen Nia Jackson and Tatianna Thomas in the second half. Thomas reached new season highs with four points, five rebounds and three steals in 13 minutes. Jackson scored three points on a shot from long distance, while also adding two rebounds and two assists.
As Stanford led 38-22 at the break, the Cardinal had two players in double figures led by Wiggins with 15 and Harmon's 11.
The Ducks shot just 32.0 percent (8-of-25) from the floor, and were led by Manou's eight first-half points.
An early scoring barrage from Stanford had Oregon trailing by the score of 12-2 with just over three minutes gone. Harmon scored the Cardinal's first six points, and Stanford also turned two Duck turnovers into early scores.
Stanford built its lead to 24-6, on the back of Wiggins. In the first eight minutes, she had already built her point total to 12, on 5-of-7 shooting.
The Ducks return home to host Washington State and Washington next week. The Cougars are up first with a 7 p.m. start on Thursday night at Mac Court.
The Huskies come to town on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will also be televised on Comcast SportsNet Northwest.
