SAMMAMISH, Wash. ? With all five Duck players in the top 20 overall, the No. 31 University of Oregon women's golf team staked a first-day lead in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Monday on the par 72, 6,130-yard Sahalee Golf Course.
Sophomores Monika Graf and Kendra Little stood in a tie for second place (73), while the Ducks had three other players in the top 20 overall - juniors Kate Hildahl (12th-tie, 76) and Felicia Eastick (17th-tie, 77) and sophomore Erica Omlid (20th-tie, 78).
Graf's score was a two-shot collegiate best for the East Wenatchee, Wash., native, and improved on her three-over 75 from her season opener two weeks ago in the Giustina Memorial Classic in Corvallis, Ore. On Monday, she posted birdies on the par-5 second and par-4 eighth holes, shot par on 13 holes, and bogeyed the par-5 sixth, par-3 ninth and par-4 16th holes
Little's one-over 73 was the 17th round of 73 or better in her 40 college rounds and 16th in that span in which she has carded UO's low round. The Eugene native had birdies Monday on the par-4 10th, par-3 17th and par-5 18th holes, enjoyed par scores on 12 holes, a pair of bogeys on par-3 fifth and par-4 eighth holes and another double-bogey on the par-4 16th hole.
As a team, the Ducks combined for a score of 299, and stood four strokes ahead of No. 37 Stanford (303), who were followed by No. 30 Oregon State (third, 306) and No. 16 California and Washington (fourth-tie, 310).
Other teams in the field included Idaho (sixth, 315), No. 46 Long Beach State (seventh, 316), New Mexico State (eighth, 317), BYU (ninth, 318), No. 12 New Mexico (10th, 319), No. 40 San Francisco (11th, 321), Washington State (12th, 324) and Eastern Washington (13th, 330).
UO's sub-300 score was its second in four rounds this fall with its other a 291 in the Giustina Memorial Classic opener at nearby Trysting Tree Golf Course.
On the individual leaderboard Monday, BYU's Natalie Jimenez held a one-stroke lead with her even-par 72, over Graf, Little and Rebecca Durham of Stanford (second-tie, 73).
Looking ahead, the Ducks return for the second of three rounds Tuesday. UO's first player tees off the first tee at 11:40 a.m., and regularly updated hole-by-hole results will be updated at the www.GolfStat.com website. More tourney information is available at the www.GoHuskies.com website.
