Trio Lead No. 27 Ducks in Stanford Opener

STANFORD, Calif. ? A trio of Duck women's golfers were tied for 34th place overall in the Stanford Intercollegiate first round Friday, while No. 27 University of Oregon stood in 13th place in the all-star field.
On the par 71, 6,092-yard Stanford Course, Oregon carded a seven-over 291 Friday ? its third sub-300 score of the fall after shooting 291 in the par-72 Giustina Memorial Classic and 299 in the par-72 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.
Individually, freshman Ashley Edwards shot a 1-over 72 in her collegiate debut Friday, and was tied with sophomore Monika Graf and senior Cathryn Bristow for 34th place.
Junior Felicia Eastick rounded out UO's scoring with a 4-over 75 and was tied for 63rd, and sophomore Kendra Little also played for the team Friday (68th-tie, 76). Sophomore Erica Omlid also competed as an individual and was tied for 63rd with her 4-over 75.
Edwards carded birdies on the par-3 eighth and 17th holes, had par scores on 13 holes, and added bogeys on the par-5 first and 12th holes and the par-4 11th hole.
Graf enjoyed birdies on the par-3 eighth and 17th holes, claimed par scores on 14 holes, and had bogeys on the par-4 fifth and ninth holes and par-5 16th hole.
Bristow turned in birdies on the par-4 sixth and par-3 17th holes, shot par on 13 holes, and bogeyed the par-3 third and par-4 ninth and 10th holes.
Graf's score was her fourth of 75 or better in her seven rounds this season (including a 1-over 73 collegiate best) that were also better than her preseason collegiate best of 76. Bristow's 1-over score was her season best in her first collegiate action in a month after she was the New Zealand team's top player last week in the World Amateur Team Championships in Australia.
Overall in the team standings, No. 3 UCLA held a one-stroke lead with its 7-under 277 over No. 5 Oklahoma State (second, 278), while No. 1 USC was tied for third place with No. 19 Stanford (279).
No. 31 Arizona followed in a tie for fifth place with No. 47 New Mexico (282), and was followed by No. 18 California (eighth, 284), No. 9 Duke (ninth, 285), No. 14 Pepperdine and No. 58 UNLV (10th-tie, 287), No. 6 Vanderbilt (12th, 289) and No. 27 Oregon (13th, 291). The remaining teams in the 16-team field included No. 59 Texas (14th, 295), No. 25 Washington (15th, 296), No. 39 Oregon State (16th, 312).
Individually, Oklahoma State's Carolina Masson led the field with her 6-under 65, and held a one-stroke advantage over Lizette Salas of USC (second, 66), and four players were tied for third place at 68.

Looking ahead, action resumes Saturday with the second round's first tee time at 8:30 a.m. Sunday's final round will begin at 7:30 a.m.
