Oregon - Oakland postgame quotes - Nov. 17, 2008
11/18/08 | Men's Basketball
Oakland 82, Oregon 79 (OT) - Nov. 14, 2008
Greg Kampe - Oakland head coach
“We lost our major player (SR F Derek Nelson) a day before we came here. We didn't know how we would play without him. If you look at statistics, when he plays we are usually 8-10 points ahead. But today Jonathon Jones handled the game very well. Nobody will tell me any more that he can't play. The crowd went nuts and we played under a lot of pressure, and we won. We also had three freshmen on the floor. This is the best team we've had in past 25 years. This game was the best learning experience for my team we could have asked for.”
Ernie Kent - Oregon head coach
“Today we weren't able to shut Jones down. He simply hit big shot after big shot. From the game, the guys will learn that although their name is Oakland, they're a very good team and the statistics are showing it, because they did much better than us. It was a good game since the beginning, unfortunately, we didn't win it. Guys missed some good chances at the end. I thought Garrett Sim had some good looks, as well as Churchill Odia. We lost LeKendrick Longmire again. We tried to get him going again, but he didn't play the same way. He had a remarkable first half. Hopefully we'll get better before we go on the road this weekend.”
Joevan Catron - Jr., F
“This season will be a learning process. We are a young team and we lack experience. This game will prepare us for the road and Maui. Pac-10 play also isn't going to be any easier.”
Tajuan Porter - Jr., G
“Jones had a great game today. He hit some tough shots and he controlled the whole game. We couldn't stop him. I played against Jones and Benson in high school. Jones was shooting over me today and took advantage of it. He's gotten much better and he's solid now.”
“I think our offense played pretty well. We missed some open shots and good opportunities but I think we lost this game defensively. They had 18 offensive rebounds that's way too many. They also made more shots than we did.”
LeKendric Longmire - So., F
“I thought I did a pretty good job in the first half. I approached this game wanting to score, but also looking out on the defensive end. Jones kept his team going tonight. I kept telling the guys to move him to the left. There is no way he should have been able to score 32 points against us. Then I got cramps once again in the second half and I feel like I let the team down.”
