Oregon Stumbles In 67-45 Loss At BYU

PROVO, Utah - Oregon suffered its first loss of the young season on Friday afternoon with a 67-45 stumble at BYU.
The Ducks (2-1) offense sputtered, shooting just 25 percent (13-of-52) from the floor, and turning the ball over 21 times.
On the other end of the court, the Cougars (2-1) shot 43.3 percent (29-of-67) and were led by senior guard Shawnee Slade's 17 points. Sarah Hostetter also added 13 points off the bench on a 6-of-9 shooting performance.
BYU took 67 shots compared to Oregon's 52, mainly because of the Ducks turnovers and the Cougars 13 offensive rebounds. Cassie King of BYU had a game-high 10 rebounds, five on the offensive end.
Limited to five players on its bench with the absence of injured guards Taylor Lilley and Rita Kollo, Oregon's reserves were outscored 31-8 by the Cougars' bench.
Oregon was led by sophomore Ellie Manou and freshman Amanda Johnson, who scored 10 points each. Johnson also led the Ducks with eight rebounds.
BYU led 38-24 at the half led by Slade's 10 first-half points.
The Ducks held a slight 10-8 edge with just under 13 minutes to go, but BYU held Oregon scoreless for over five minutes mounting an 11-0 run that resulted in the Cougars' 19-10 advantage.
Manou finally broke the scoreless streak with a jumper at the 7:46 mark, but the Ducks could not make a dent in BYU's lead.
Oregon's offense suffered in the first half with 10 turnovers and a .304 (7-of-23) field goal percentage.
The Cougars shot 48.6 percent (17-of-35) from the floor and got nine extra possessions by bringing down nine offensive boards.
Manou and Cocks led Oregon offensively with nine and seven points, respectively, in the first half.
The Cougars took their first lead of the game, 7-4, at the 14:03 when Coriann Wood drained the first three-pointer of the game.
Oregon will now head to South Dakota State for the second game of its road trip on Sunday. Tip is scheduled for noon PST and the game will be broadcast on KSCR 1320 AM as well as the O-Zone. The Jackrabbits are currently 3-0 on the year.
