12/21/08 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. - Playing its first ranked opponent of the season, Oregon gave seventh-ranked Baylor one of its toughest tests of the year, but couldn't hang on in the end, falling 81-71 at McArthur Court on Saturday night.
The No. 7 Bears improve to 11-1, having won five in a row, while the Ducks fall to 3-6, having dropped their last four.
Oregon kept it close with a three-point barrage from the starting guard combination of Micaela Cocks and Taylor Lilley. The duo went a combined 9-of-15 from long distance during the game, including draining three in the final three minutes of action.
In her third start of the season after missing the first six games of the year, Lilley had a season and team-high 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting.
Cocks finished the game with 18, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from three-point range, tying a career high for buckets from long distance.
Baylor was led by Jessica Morrow's game-high 21 points on an 8-of-12 shooting performance. Danielle Wilson added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Jhasmin Player chipped in 11 points.
Oregon's Nicole Canepa also reached double figures with 11.
Baylor shot 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the floor and outrebounded Oregon 40-32, while the Ducks shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59)
Oregon entered the locker room leading 39-36, led by Cocks' 10 points and seven from Canepa. It was the first time Baylor has trailed all year, as Oregon shot 53.8 percent (27-of-59) from the floor, and knocked down their most field goals (27) of the year.
The Ducks 39 points were also the most Baylor has allowed this season.
Notes: Oregon used its fifth starting lineup of the season; Cocks, Lilley, Kenyon, Holliday, Canepa...this was Oregon's sixth straight game against a team that made the postseason in 2008; South Dakota State, Wyoming, Montana, Georgia tech, Marquette and Baylor.
