Ducks top Long Beach State, 86-74

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon men's basketball team defeated Long Beach State, 86-74, on Monday night at McArthur Court in Eugene. The Ducks, playing in their final non-conference game, evened their season mark to 6-6 overall. The 49ers dropped to 5-7 on the season.
Four players scored in double-figures for the Ducks, led by sophomore guard LeKendric Longmire who scored a team-best 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. It was the fifth straight game that Longmire scored in double digits, and his eighth in 12 games this season.
Junior forward Joevan Catron registered his fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. A pair of Oregon freshman also scored in double-figures, with guard Garrett Sim contributing 12 points and center Michael Dunigan with 10 points. Sim also added a career-high four steals.
Long Beach State was led offensively by senior guard Donavan Morris who had a game-high 18 points. T.J. Robinson and Larry Anderson came off the bench to score 17 and 14 points respectively.
The Ducks shot 48.3 percent from the field in the win, hitting 26-of-60 field goal attempts. Oregon hit 29-of-38 free throws for 76.3 percent. UO was limited to 26.3 percent shooting from behind the 3-point arc (5-of-19). Long Beach State shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the field, 31.6 percent on 3-pointers (6-of-19) and 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the charity stripe.
The Ducks out-rebounded LBSU, 37-33, while recording 15 steals to the 49ers' six. Oregon forced Long Beach State into 22 turnovers, while UO committed just 14 on the game.
Long Beach State led early on by as many as four points on two occasions, a 9-5 advantage with 17:33 remaining and a 15-11 lead with 14:41 left in the first half. Oregon out-scored the 49ers 13-5 over the final six minutes to take a 45-39 lead into halftime.
The Ducks opened the second half on a 16-2 run, jumping out to their largest advantage of 20 points with 15:15 left in the game. An 11-2 run by the 49ers pulled them to within 10 points at the midway point in the second stanza.
A layup by senior forward Churchill Odia gave Oregon a 13-point advantage, 78-65, with 3:42 remaining in the game. Long Beach State battled back, cutting the lead to eight points with less than two minutes to play. But Oregon would finish the game on an 8-4 run for the 86-74 final.
