Oregon Win Streak Reaches Five After 6-1 Victory Over UCR

EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon men's tennis team will head into the Pac-10 season on a sizzling five-match winning streak after a 6-1 victory over UC Riverside on Tuesday night at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks improve to 11-7 on the season, while UC Riverside drops to 4-8.
For the fifth straight dual, Oregon used a good showing in doubles action to get things started. The Ducks' doubles teams swept all three matches as the tandem of Alex Cornelissen and Marcos Verdasco defeated Joe Cartledge and Ahmad Shiraz, 8-5, at the top spot.
In No. 2 doubles, Geoff Embry and Romeo Mortera recorded an 8-3 win over UCR's Quoc Doan and John Park.
Francisco Gallardo and Stephen Wiechert finished things off at the No. 3 spot with an 8-1 victory over Sebastian Ko and Jack Tadevosian.
In singles action, Verdasco registered his seventh win of the season, in a come-from-behind victory over Cartledge, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the top spot of the lineup.
Gallardo registered his 10th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gorjan Kovacevic at No. 2.
Cornelissen extended his winning streak to four matches with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tadevosian at No. 3 in the lineup, while improving his record to 11-7 this season.
Mortera, who has not dropped a singles match during the Ducks' five-dual winning streak, improved his overall record to 11-4 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Park.
A victor in his last six outings, Embry extended that streak with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 spot over Doan.
Wiechert was the only Duck to fall against the Highlanders, losing 6-7, 6-2, 10-7 to Shiraz.
Oregon ends its non-conference schedule at 11-7 and on a five-match winning streak. The Ducks play their final matches at home this year hosting USC at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, and UCLA at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Student Tennis Center.
