Oregon - Washington State postgame quotes
01/17/09 | Men's Basketball
#24 LeKendric Longmire
“This was a game we should have won. I felt like we were the better team, but they came out and played better.”
On Coach
“He was fighting for us, so we wanted to go out and fight for him. A couple of things didn't go our way.”
“He showed passion, and that sparked us. Hopefully, it will continue to spark us. Everyone needs to work a little harder.”
On the early start:
“We can't blame it on the start time. They came out and played harder than we did today, and got the win.”
On the referees:
“The refs can't win or lose a game for us this year.”
On the upcoming road trip:
“We have to go steal some wins.”
“In the Pac-10 every game is difficult; we just have to keep grinding. When we get one win, hopefully that will lead us to more. I have no doubt that we will get a win, but when I can't tell you.”
On
“It has been a little quieter this year, but I think that also comes with winning games. When we get wins, I think it will liven up. We have to go out and get it done.”
#12 Tajuan Porter
“There have been a lot of games that we should have won. We just need to continue to play with energy. This team is going through a bit of adversity, but wil will find a way to overcome it.”
On his three-pointers:
“I was reading the defense. You have to mix it up, sometimes attack and sometimes pull up. You need to keep the defense off balance.”
On Coach Kent:
“He believes that this game was reffed unfairly, and he did what he had to do. As a team we were able to come together, and I think it brought us closer.”
“There have been a lot of games that we should have won. We just need to continue to play with energy. This team is going through a bit of adversity, but wil will find a way to overcome it.”
Head Coach Ernie Kent
On Ducks play:
“I'm really proud of them. The guys battled hard.”
On Washington State:
“They know the clock so well. 28-28 free throws are hard to beat coming down the stretch.”
On Taylor Rochestie:
“He controlled a good part of the game by himself. He did an excellent job.”
On offense:
“Offensively we missed a lot of scoring opportunities to control the game better.”
On technicals:
“I have been a head coach for 19 years and had four technicals total, and two were today. I have never been thrown out and that speaks for itself.”
On referee's calls:
“When I asked the refs they said “I know the guy got fouled, someone needed the foul.” I say then call it next time on the littlest guy, not the biggest. Some calls were unacceptable but it comes back to the guys getting themselves in position to win games regardless of a couple calls. But I have a lot of respect for those guys. They had nothing to do with missed lay-ups or missed free throws.”
On future game plans:
“We're in a process and we're not at the end. For the new guys this is their first major adversity and we have to keep the big picture in mind.”
