01/19/09 | Men's Tennis
BOISE, Idaho - The Oregon men's tennis team fell for the first time in 2009, 5-2, to No. 37 ranked Boise State at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
The Ducks, under Marcos Verdasco and Alexander Cornelissen, were victorious at No. 1 doubles but Jose' Izquierdo and Mike Myrhed were defeated at No. 3 doubles by a small margin, 8-5, to prevent the Ducks from scoring the doubles point against the Broncos.
In singles play, Oregon took both the No. 5 and No. 6 singles with Myrhed and Duncan MacDonald-Korth winning their third matches of the short season in straight sets. Myrhed knocked off No. 85 ranked Stanley Sarapanich, who jumped into the national top-100 after a stellar fall season but fell to the Ducks in his first spring match.
Ayrton Wibowo, along with Verdasco and Cornelissen, all forced a seventh point in their first set of singles but were each retired in second sets.
