Oregon Wins Home Game Over Montana State, 89-66

EUGENE, Ore. -- Six players scored in double figures led by sophomore guard Teondre Williams' 19 points as the University of Oregon men's basketball team won 89-66 over Montana State Saturday night at McArthur Court in Eugene. The Ducks improved to 4-2 overall with the victory, while the Bobcats fell to 2-3 on the season.
Wiliams finished the game 7-of-13 from the field (3-of-4 on 3-pointers) to match a career-high with 19 points. The 6-4 guard from Atlanta, Ga., has scored in double-figures in each of Oregon's six games this season.
Sophomore Jeremy Jacob recorded Oregon's first double-double of the season, tallying 10 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes of work. Junior guard LeKendric Longmire added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Ducks. Oregon out-rebounded Montana State, 49-20, including an 18-7 advantage in offensive boards. The Ducks also held a 44-22 edge in points in the painted area.
Three players came off the bench to give UO a 37-20 scoring advantage in bench points. Sophomore center Michael Dunigan, who sat the last two games with an injury, finished with 15 points, four rebounds and a block in 16 minutes of playing time. Freshman forward Jamil Wilson scored 12 points, hitting 4-of-6 field goals, while adding three assists in 21 minutes. Sophomore guard Garrett Sim added 10 points and three assists in 22 minutes.
Oregon played without leading scorer senior guard Tajuan Porter who sat out the game with an injury. Senior forward Joevan Catron and sophomore guard Matt Humphrey also sat out the game with an injury.
Montana State led 23-22 after an Austin Brown jumper at the 9:38 mark in the first half. Oregon went on a 19-3 run over the next five minutes to take a commanding 41-26 lead. That run was highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers by Williams and a 3-pointer by Wilson on the ensuing trip down to culminate a 10-0 run that took less than two minutes off the clock.
The Ducks took a 49-35 lead into the half. Williams led all scorers with 14 points and added two blocks in playing 16 first-half minutes. Jacob had eight of his rebounds by halftime. The Ducks shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) and 91 percent (10-of-11) from the free throw line in the first stanza.
An 11-3 run by the Bobcats early in the second half cut the Ducks' lead to single digits, 55-46, but Oregon responded with a 14-3 run to make it 69-49 with 10:04 to play.
Sim buried a pair of 3-pointers and Dunigan made four free throws down the stretch to close the game with the 89-66 result.
The Ducks finished the game shooting 50.0 percent from the field (30-of-60 field goals, 6-of-12 on 3-pointers). Oregon went 23-of-27 on free throws for 85.2 percent. UO had 15 assists to 14 turnovers, while tallying seven blocks and five steals.
MSU had 10 assists to nine turnovers. The Bobcats shot 41.0 percent from the field (25-of-61) and 33.3 percent on 3-pointers (7-of-21). Montana State made 9-of-12 free throws for 75.0 percent.
Oregon (4-2) returns to action Dec. 5 with a road game against Missouri (4-1) as a part of the Pac-10 / Big 12 Hardwood Series. The game will be televised on ESPNU, with tip-time scheduled for 2 p.m. (PST).
