Ducks Fall 6-1 to No. 47 Arkansas
02/14/09 | Men's Tennis
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Oregon men's tennis team dropped a non-conference road dual, 6-1, to No. 47 Arkansas on Friday night at the Dills Indoor Stadium.
Ric Mortera has the lone win for the Ducks in singles competition, knocking off UA's Tyler Tarnasky 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. The Hogs, featuring a pair of top-50 singles players, clinched the match with Dmitry Lebedev's win at No. 4 singles against Oregon freshman Jose' Izquierdo.
Mortera also pulled out a win with Duncan MacDonald-Korth at No. 2 doubles but the Razorbacks took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to win the pairs point.
Oregon is now 5-4 on the season with a 5-2 record at home and a 0-2 record away from Eugene - both road losses coming against top-50 teams. Arkansas improves to 3-2 on the year following their first home dual of the season after a severe ice storm in the area forced the squad to cancel a pair of earlier home matches.
The Ducks will stay in Fayetteville, Ark. for the weekend as they are scheduled to take on Wichita State on Sunday afternoon. The Shockers are a winless 0-3 on the season, with one loss to No. 12 Tulsa to open the season.
