Postgame Quotes vs. ASU
02/05/09 | Men's Basketball
Arizona State 66, Oregon 57
February 5, 2009
Oregon Coach Ernie Kent
On the game overall:
“It is hard playing against a veteran team, especially when they have such a terrific performance by one of their players.”
“We battled hard in the first half, and were playing great defensively. But, when we have a few lapses and they go up 3 or 4 points, it gets hard.”
On Harden:
“He played terrific. We just didn't have an answer for him. He was controlling the whole game. He is a great basketball player and will be an outstanding pro player.”
On freethrows:
“When you make your free throws you are in control.”
On the freshmen:
“Wiley played an outstanding first half and rebounded extremely well. Humphrey played outstanding defense. Crittle played a sound game, and Sim looked to be coming back a bit. All of the young guys did well today.”
On veteran players:
“We need consistency and for them to step up and play their game. When they don't, it makes it more difficult for the freshmen players.”
On Arizona:
“They play good basketball. They can really score. We need to attack and make basketball plays. We have a big weekend and a big game coming up, and we are going to bounce back on Saturday.”
ASU Head Coach Herb Sendek
On the game:
“We came to the Northwest to win the games. We focused on them separately. We couldn't play Washington and Oregon at the same time in our heads. We did well, although we had three of our primary guys out. There wasn't any brilliant tactic. We just kept playing. Oregon had their plays for the certain time, but there is no question we were a better team tonight. That's just the reality.”
# 13 ASU James Harden
On the game:
“It felt great. We won at Oregon and I am satisfied. The whole team did well tonight.”
On his game:
“I did alright. I could have done better. It was a battle on the floor. I tried to step up my game as much as I could. I don't keep track of my points when I am on the court.”
#12 Tajuan Porter
On the loss:
“It's disappointing. We have been practicing the whole week. Tonight no one stepped up and Arizona State took advantage of it.”
On Harden:
“Harden took over the game, especially in the second half. He had a total of 36 points. We were just playing a catch-up. It's a tough situation.”
#50 Joevan Catron
On Harden:
“It's a tough match-up. We did all we could to stop Harden tonight. He took over the game. Coming out to the second half, we were just slow. Then we made some freshman mistakes executing the plays and the veteran team took advantage of us. I am not satisfied at all.”
