Oregon Knocks Off Higher Ranked New Mexico, 5-2

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 58 Oregon women's tennis team upset No. 49 New Mexico, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center. The Ducks improved to 4-2 on the duals season and a remained an unbeaten 4-0 at home. New Mexico drops to 2-3 on the year.

The Ducks jumped out to an early lead in the match by winning the duals point. No match was more important for Oregon in the doubles session than at No. 2 with Carmen Seremeta and Claudia Hirt battling back from a 4-1 defecit to win the match 8-5.

In singles competition Seremeta won 7-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles but it was Stephanie Macfarlane's 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles that secured the Oregon victory. Freshman Madelie Janse van Rensburg won at No. 4 singles and Ana Cecilia Olivos dominated at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1.

The Ducks will battle another higher ranked foe on Sunday morning, with No. 39 Colorado in Eugene.
