UO v. Arizona Postgame Quotes
02/07/09 | Men's Basketball
Arizona 87, Oregon 77
February 7, 2009
Head Coach Ernie Kent
On second half:
“Defensively we didn't have an answer in the first 5-6 minutes. We did battle hard.”
On freshmen:
“Freshmen did a great job. Drew Wiley was fantastic today. Garrett Sim hit one to start the game too. It's all about confidence. They will come back, get back to practice, battle, and they will get there.”
On improvement:
“It's going to take time. Our physical fitness will progress naturally, but our mental toughness we need to get to.”
On breaking ground of Matt Court:
“It's a great day to be a Duck and a great day for the state and university.”
On upcoming Washington road trip:
“This road trip will be a learning experience. We must continue to play.”
Arizona #34 Chase Budinger
On the win:
“It was a good and tough game. It feels good to win at Oregon, and I know today was an important day to them. At the half time we went to the locker room and talked about what changes we need to make in the second half. We came out concentrated and controlled the game.”
#12 Tajuan Porter
On the loss and the opponent team:
“It's a mental problem now. Arizona kept us off-balance. We tried to take them out of their comfort zone, but they are a good team. I believe they scored 16 out of 17 possessions in the second half. Arizona has three big-time players: Budinger, Hill, and Wise. They all stepped up today.”
On the strategy for next games:
“We need to keep on believing in ourselves. We are almost there. We have been working hard and we're getting better. The game is all about mental focus.”
#22 Drew Wiley
On the game:
“We knew what to expect, because we played them before. We had a pretty good feel of what they were going to do.”
On his performance:
“I know I should be shooting. I am trying to get on the floor as much as I can, so I can get better. I was happy with my game today.”
On the loss:
“We have to start the second half better. That's our problem for several games now. I feel like we get on the floor and we are just too slow. Nobody wants to lose, especially so many games. We know we can win these games. We just need to put two halves together. I am looking forward to next weekend on the road. The whole team is working really hard and we have good chances to win.”
On Coach Kent:
“Coach was happy with us at the half time. I really think that this is just a mental problem. We talked about little adjustments in the locker room, but we were happy with our game at the time.”
