Oregon 79, Oregon State 69
March 1, 2009
McArthur Court - Eugene, Ore.
Oregon Head Coach Ernie Kent
His overall thoughts on the game:
"This game ended up being like a mini-version of our season. We had some adversity early in being down at half and LeKendric in foul trouble, but this crowd and the roar in this building willed us to win in the end."
On the play of Matt Humphrey:
"He's had a couple good games for us this year and this was by far his best, he played outstanding. We've seen some really good performances of late by Josh Crittle and Mike Dunigan and now here comes Matt with a great game."
On Joevan Catron:
"Duke's mom and grandmother were here today for the first time, their first time ever in Eugene and Duke was fired up. They came in all the way from Chicago and Duke played with fire and really stood out defensively."
On the Ducks in the first half:
"We played great offensively early on but couldn't stop them on the other end. Our defense and our energy spiked up in the second half to give us the edge."
On Oregon gaining more confidence:
"Oregon State is a great defensive team and not many people have scored almost 80 points on them like we did tonight. This was a great way to end the home season and we have some real momentum now when we need it most."
#12 Tajuan Porter
On the win:
"We proved today we can be much better. At the end of the season we are finally getting together. Today everyone played hard and stepped up. We knew we had to stay focused and attack the whole time and we followed the game plan we practiced the whole week."
On the turning point in the game:
"I think the turning point today was when we took the lead in the second half. I got fouled and scored for us."
On the crowd:
"We had a great crowd today. I'm so happy for the freshmen, because they have never seen it like this before. All the fans contributed to this win today."
On his play:
"I tried to take control of the game, because I am more experienced than Garrett Sim, but we all stayed solid on defense. Josh Crittle and Matt Humphrey had a good game too. We kept OSU off-balance and it was the key today. We pressed them and we got our second win. This really energizes us."
#50 Joevan Catron
On the team:
"We are getting our confidence up. We have been working hard and now we are finally clicking better and better. Now, when we established 2 wins in Pac 10 we need to keep our game up. We are ready for the road games."
On the crowd:
"Mac Court was great today. The crowd kept getting louder and louder. It was a great feeling. We really wanted to win the last home game for our families, fans, and ourselves. Overall, this was the best game of the season."
Oregon State
Head Coach Craig Robinson
"This was very frustrating, because their pressure bothered us, and it's been a long time since a team's pressure has bothered us. I have to give them credit."
"The turnovers we had in the second half were unusual. I wouldn't say we panicked, but we were just careless. We haven't been handled by a press like that in a while."
"We are not good enough to feel confident with a lead. We knew they were going to make a run, and we can't turn the ball over in a place like this. The crowd was terrific."
On Tajuan Porter:
"That kid is a good player. It's hard to shut him down. He smart, and he makes a lot of their players better."
Guard Calvin Haynes
"I don't want to say we panicked. We just missed easy shots that we don't normally missed. We stopped executing and stopped doing what was working."
"They played a good game, but we still felt we should have won."
"We didn't relax with the lead, but we just didn't do what we needed to do. We should have punched them in the mouth when we had the chance."
