Oregon Takes Game One Of Doubleheader 12-3; Second Halted Due to Darkness

EUGENE, Ore. ? Oregon evened its weekend series with Santa Clara on Saturday, taking game one of the doubleheader, 12-3, at PK Park.
The second game of Saturday's doubleheader was called due to darkness with score even at 2-2 headed into the top of the eighth, and will resume tomorrow at noon.
Fans with tickets for Saturday's doubleheader may use those same tickets for entry into Sunday's game, and can remain for the series finale, originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
In game one on Saturday afternoon, four Oregon players finished with multiple hits, led by sophomore Mitch Karraker's 3-for-5 performance. The Clovis, Calif., native collected two of his four RBIs on the day in the bottom of the eighth, hitting his first home run of the season out to left center.
The Ducks, now 4-6 on the year, held just a 3-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh, before piling on seven runs in the inning.
Caleb Tommasini, Eddy Rodriguez, Karraker and Andrew Schmidt each picked up RBI singles in the inning, while in his first start of the season, freshman third baseman John Adamson capped the seventh with his first hit - a two-run triple to left field.
Tommasini was 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored, as was freshman second baseman Danny Pulfer.
Schmidt finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored, while freshman KC Serna connected on a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to give Oregon its go-ahead runs.
Oregon junior right-hander Erik Stavert (2-1) picked up his second win of the year on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing just two runs on five hits.
Thain Simon took the loss for Santa Clara (3-5). The sophomore right-hander allowed three runs on four hits over five and 2/3 innings.
Game Three Status: Oregon and Santa Clara will resume the third game of the series at noon tomorrow at PK Park with score even at 2-2 headed into the eighth inning.
Freshman Scott McGough recorded the last two outs of the seventh in relief of Oregon junior left-hander Bennett Whitmore, who pitched 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits.
Steve Kalush was on the mound for Santa Clara when the game was halted, taking over for starter Alex Rivers, who pitched 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
Oregon took a 1-0 lead in the first after Caleb Tommasini led off the inning with a single and eventually scored from third on sacrifice fly from Eddy Rodriguez. The Ducks went ahead 2-0 in the third when John Adamson homered to right field.
The Broncos Matt Long's is provided the RBIs for both Santa Clara runs with a one-run single to score David Abraham in the fifth, and a double down the left field line to score Brady Fuerst in the seventh.
