Men?s Golf Moves to Second at NCAA West Regional

DALY CITY, Calif. -- Oregon charged up the leader board on Friday by firing a 10-under 278 to move into second place following the second round of the 2009 NCAA West Regional, being played at the par-72, 6,849-yard Lake Merced Golf Club.

The Ducks trailed only Arizona State, which was at 22-under 554. Oregon was next at 560, followed by San Diego at 566, Texas A&M at 567 and USC at 569. The top five teams from Lake Merced advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-30 at Toledo, Ohio.

The next pack was led by San Francisco at 571, essentially meaning the Ducks have an 11-stroke cushion for a top-five finish, followed by New Mexico at 572 and San Diego State at 573.

Oregon had three individuals in the top 10.

Freshman Robbie Ziegler carded his second straight 69 and was tied for third at 6-under 138. Isaiah Telles matched his career low with a 67 and was tied for fifth at 139. The sophomore from Tualatin, Ore., had five birdies and 13 pars.

Freshman Daniel Miernicki was tied for 10th at 140 following a 71 on Friday. Freshman Eugene Wong had Oregon's final counting score, 1 71 that left him tied for 20th at 1-under 143.

Jesper Kennegard of Arizona State was the individual leader at 10-under 134, with USC's Matthew Giles in second at 137.

The 54-hole tournament concludes on Saturday with the first tee time set for 8:30 a.m.
